Carolyn Zakaski, Her Brush is Dry: A Celebration of Life was held for Carolyn (Sam) Jean Zakaski, Artist, was held at the Masonic Lodge in Woodbridge on March 27, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. A reception followed at the Coffee House of Occoquan where the evening open mic. is in her honor.
In her own words:
“A graphic artist by profession and a perpetual student and artist by choice, watercolor is my preferred medium. I’ve had the opportunity to participate in numerous classes and workshops held by a number of exceptional area artists as well as those visiting. Its been my pleasure to participate in local and international juried exhibits and shows.” Known locally as “The Bird Lady”, she had many exotic birds that were like children to her. Carolyn won numerous awards both local and national as a painter. She was a member of the Potomac Valley Watercolor Society and past member of the Art League of Alexandria. As a member of The Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington DC, in 2004 she hung in the Third Exhibition of Fine Art In Miniature of the World Federation of Miniaturists at the Smithsonian.
Carolyn passed after a 4 year battle with breat cancer. She was preceded in death by her mother Audry Bailey and father Raymond Zakaski. She was born in WV and raised by her Grandfather, the Honorbale Cleaveland M Bailey, Congressman. She is survived by one son Mark Saseen, a grandson Cole Saseen and a sister Mary (Cathy) Zakaski-Prola and 2 nephews John & Jason Prola& one neice Lisa Prola.
